The traditional Sasirangan fabric from Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan, has achieved a remarkable milestone by making its way onto the European fashion stage. The distinctive Banjar textile drew significant attention at the prestigious Indonesia Creative Week (ICW) Belgium 2025, held on 13–14 December 2025 at Antwerpen Central Station, Belgium.
Tanah Laut’s participation in ICW Belgium marked more than just an appearance—it represented a prestigious international achievement. Tanah Laut Regency was recorded as the only regency from Indonesia selected to take part in the event. At the provincial level, Indonesia was represented solely by Bali, underscoring the quality, competitiveness, and global potential of Tanah Laut Sasirangan.
Hj Dian Rahmat expressed her gratitude and pride over this accomplishment, stating that the presence of Tanah Laut Sasirangan on the European stage demonstrates the strong global appeal of local creative products.
“Alhamdulillah, this is a very proud achievement. Tanah Laut Sasirangan is now not only recognized nationally, but has also gained international appreciation. This proves that our local artisans’ work possesses high quality and strong artistic value,” said Hj Dian Rahmat.
Recognition for Tanah Laut Sasirangan was further reflected in the trust shown by several renowned Belgian fashion designers, who selected the fabric as the main material for their fashion creations. This cross-cultural collaboration is expected to open wider opportunities for Sasirangan to be integrated into international fashion trends.
According to Hj Dian Rahmat, this success is inseparable from the strong commitment of the Tanah Laut Regency Government under the leadership of Regent H. Rahmat Trianto, who has consistently encouraged the development of regional flagship products. In addition to conventional sectors such as agriculture, livestock, and plantations, Sasirangan has been positioned as a priority program within the creative economy sector.
“The appearance of Tanah Laut Sasirangan at ICW Belgium is a strategic step to expand global recognition, open export market opportunities, and increase added value for local artisans,” she explained.
She expressed hope that this achievement would generate sustainable economic impact, particularly for UMKM actors and Sasirangan artisans in Tanah Laut, while also serving as motivation to continuously improve quality, innovation, and competitiveness.
“With the support of all stakeholders, we are optimistic that Tanah Laut Sasirangan will gain wider international recognition and contribute significantly to improving the welfare of our artisans,” Hj Dian Rahmat concluded. Dede/AI![]()
